Introduction about the University

Panjab University (PU) is one of the oldest Universities in India, initiated at Lahore in 1882. PU has a long tradition of pursuing excellence in teaching and research in science & technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and sports.The University supports excellence and innovation in academic programmes, promotes excellence in research, scholarship and teaching. The University is committed to attract and support the best students and faculty, who excel at teaching and research. In independent India, Panjab University with its Campus at Chandigarh and nearly two hundred colleges in Punjab and Chandigarh, has served various societal needs with distinction. The glorious traditions of the University established during the period of more than 136 years of its long service to the nation since its inception are a source of inspiration for the present generation of faculty members and students.

The Panjab University Campus at Chandigarh accommodates 78 teaching and research departments/institutes/centres besides four independent Chairs for research. The  University School of Open Learning, a multi-disciplinary department, caters to about 20,000 distance learners and offers about two dozen traditional and job oriented courses. The university has 194 affiliated and 6 constituent colleges spread over Punjab and Chandigarh besides Regional Centres at Muktsar, Ludhiana,Hoshiarpur and Kauni. In addition, there is the Vishveshavaranand Vishwa Bandhu Institute of Sanskrit and indological Studies at Hoshiarpur

Panjab University is located in Sector 14 and Sector 25 of Chandigarh, India spreading across an area of almost 550 acres. The layout of two campuses of the University has been conceived to meet the academic, administrative, sports/recreational, residential and other requirements of a growing University. To make it self-contained, infrastructural facilities like its own Shopping Centre, Health Centre, Bank, Post office, Swimming Pool, Gymnasium, Sports Grounds, Botanical Gardens, well maintained parks, Open Air Theatre, Guest Houses, Faculty House, Seminar Complexes, Alumni House, Community Centre and a school, have been provided. Besides these facilities, the University Campus has 8 hostels for boys, 9 hostels for girls, a Working Women Hostel and 2 sports hostels. 

A cluster of prominent buildings like the Gandhi Bhawan, the Fine Arts Museum, the University Library and the Student Centre form the hub of social interaction. The three-winged structure of the Gandhi Bhawan, considered the pride of the University, is its most artistic building. The Fine Arts Museum, with its series of small galleries arranged around a courtyard, each gallery having a hyperbolic paraboloid roof (umbrella shaped), is not only an architectural but a structural marvel as well. The University Library, another key building, in the Sector 14 Campus is an RCC framed structure with red sandstone veneers. This Panjab University is Winner of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Trophy (MAKA) and Khelo India University Games in 2019-20. At present Panjab University is No-1 university in the field of Sports in India.In Asian Games 2018 seventeen players of Panjab University has represented the country and also won medals for the country. Presently two students of Panjab University already gain the Tokyo Olympic Quota 

Directorate of Sports, Panjab University, Chandigarh

The Director of Sports was set up in 1948 and is located in the Jawahar Lal Nehru Complex Building (Gymnasium Hall). It guides, frames policy and coordinates the sports activities. Directorate of Sports functions under the overall control and supervision of Director Physical Education & Sports.The Gymnasium hall caters to in-door games with international standard facilities and equipment for Badminton, TableTennis, Kabaddi (NS), Weight Lifting, Gymnastics, Judo, Wushu, Kick- Boxing, Wrestling and Taekwondo. A separate fitness centre for men and women and a well equipped physiotherapy laboratory has also been established in the gymnasium hall.

A swimming pool of International dimension and all Weather Swimming Pool is available for the swimming competitions.It also has 10 meters Indoor Shooting Range of International standard for competition purposes.Directorate of Sports has its own two sports hostels for Men & Women to accommodate the sports persons who come to participate in the Inter-college and Inter-University competitions. These hostels have a three-storey building to accommodate about 200 men and 300 women players with eight official rooms.The Directorate of Sports organized about 140 Inter College and 15 Inter University competitions during 2019-20. The Directorate of sports fielded 77 teams in Inter University competitions and arranged coaching camps in these games under the supervision of expert coaches.

Introduction about the Program

The Faculty Development Program aims to  provide space for a diverse range of leading stakeholders (governmental and non-governmental) to voice their expert opinions, proposals, analysis and aspirations for the implementation of the new concepts in Olympic year 2020 in India.It is a 6 days online education program for faculty working in Physical Education and Sports at higher education level as  Physical Education teachers, DPE’s, Director/Deputy/ Assistant Directors Physical Educations and Sports, Coaches  etc.

Focus Areas: 

The conference may focus on the following topics -

Olympism, Olympic Education, Paralympic Education and Olympic Values 

Quality Physical Education

Inclusive Physical Education 

Sports Training and Sports .Coaching 

Sports Nutrition and Sports Medicine

Health Education

Sports Psychology

Sports Management  and Corporate Social Responsibility in Sports

Sports Technology

Anti Doping

Humanity for Sports 

New Avenues in Profession  and other relevant fields in sports

 

Other Modalities:

1.There will be a maximum three sessions in a day.

2.All the sessions will be of  40 minutes each 

3.The session of the programs will be organized through online mode

4. The timings of the session will be  in between 10:00 am to 4:30 pm. .

5. The recorded version of some international speakers may also be taken with prior permission from the Organising Committee: Organising Secretary. 


Guidelines for Participation

A working agenda on the modalities has been prepared. The suggested format for the conference may have the external moderation process. Speakers will do  presentations for … minutes and in the last 5 minutes it will be open for question and answer sessions. Speakers are expected to provide analytical notes later, drawn from their own expertise and respective mandate of the session for further publication through online or offline mode.

The deliberations emerging from the program will strengthen the work culture of faculty members involved in the department of Physical Education and Sports at Higher Education Level as  Physical Education teachers, DPE’s, Director/Deputy/ Assistant Directors Physical Educations and Sports, Coaches etc.
